The building was in a strange place for a doctor’s office.
Jackie almost missed it completely, as it followed a strange road just near the city. When he went in, he immediately saw the girl’s bright red lips.
“Oh good evening sir!!” She piped as she looked up from the computer. “How can I help you today?”
Jackie couldn't help but smile. “You're the one who told me to come visit. You are still letting me have a free appointment right?”
She looked as glamorous as ever. When Jackie first met her, he thought that anyone would be able to notice her immediately in a crowd. She had a signature red lip look, and he thought it was really attractive. Red was his favorite color after all. He had met her in the city just a couple weeks ago, but it felt like they knew each other their whole lives. She had helped him get over his recent breakup, over a girl that completely broke his heart….At least, that’s the story that he told her.
He looked around at the gloomy walls, and at the faded stains on the ceiling.
“By the way, you didn't tell me that you worked in such a shady area. I couldn’t even find this place,” he said, leaning over the counter. “Isn’t there like, a crazy serial killer going around?” He was only half joking, but he wanted to scare her a bit.
“This isn’t a shady place,” she chuckled. “Plus, there aren't that many people who come anyway…..We might go out of business soon,” she whispered.
“Oi Lily? Can ya come help me with this real quick?” Behind her, a short lady popped out from a door, holding a rusted clipboard. She glanced at Jackie and gave a slight smile before turning back inside.
“Okay lover boy, you’re gonna have to wait for Dr. Boynton in his office. He’s running a bit late today.” She led the way inside and pointed him to a door to the right, touching his hand before leaving.
He watched her walk away and looked at how her body looked from behind. She kind of annoyed him a bit, but she still looked really nice. It made up for it. He sat down on a squeaky cushioned chair that seemed to be falling apart. He was tempted to pick at the peeling cover but stopped himself. As shady and rundown the building was, the office was pretty big. The shelf behind the desk was filled with medical books and little statues of body parts. But what interested Jackie weren't the certificates and awards that were carefully placed along the wall, all with gold frames. It wasn’t the lame desk decorations or the cracked name plate, with “Dr. Silvester Boynton,” carefully etched in with cursive. He had his eyes on a door, just in the corner of the room. He had his eyes on a red fingerprint.
Upon first notice, no one would have been able to see it. Jackie got up to look closer at the area near the doorknob, and his suspicion was right. It looked like it had been wiped away, but a single fingerprint remained. Could have been an accident or something, but this looks a little too recent, Jackie thought. Looks way too fresh.
Adrenaline started to kick in.
Jackie felt excitement and felt his blood rushing to his head, and his hands were shaking as he turned the doorknob, slowly, making it creak. He peeked inside, pitch black, then swung the door open, letting the light from the office fill the small closet of white gowns, now stained with red. He stepped back at the gruesome scene. A man’s body was shoved into the corner of the closet, and his head hung lifelessly. He was slashed multiple times it looked like, as crimson oozed out in different variations of cuts and lines. Jackie grimaced at the mess.
Then there was a loud crash in the other room outside.
Jackie ran out and found himself standing in the doorway, looking at the short lady from earlier, slashed multiple times, with blood gushing from her skull like a fountain. It seemed like she was choking on air.
“Shit,” A shrill voice panted behind him. “ You weren't supposed to see that.”
Jackie turned to see Lily, splattered with red. Her red lipstick was smeared.
“You killed the Doctor?” his voice shaked, stepping away from her.
She lashed out her small knife quickly, trying to cut him. He heard his heartbeat in his ears.
“Why are you trying to kill me?!?! WHY DID YOU KILL THEM?!” He screamed.
“Yeah I fucking killed the Doctor, do you have a problem? Your weak ass probably couldn’t even look at him!!” she snarled.
He was surprised to hear her voice in such a harsh way.
Now she ticked him off.
“Actually,” he frowned, grabbing her wrist before twisting it. “I do have a slight problem.” He only let go after he heard the crack, and she yanked herself away, screaming in pain. She collapsed to the floor, clutching her arm.
“Your killing style is way too messy… not really my taste if you know what I mean.”
“Oh Mr. Brave Face now are you? I’m...going TO FUCKING KILL YOU!!” Lily grabbed a pen with her other hand and shot up for his eyes, but then she felt something wet on her clothes. A sharp pain in her chest. A knife in her heart.
Jackie leaned closer to her face, and wiped away her smeared lipstick.
“Hmmm, now that’s too bad. I was starting to actually like you too. I didn’t even think about killing you yet!” Jackie laughed. He twisted the knife and thrusted it deeper. “Sorry to break it to you babe, but you’re not the only one into killing…..Really got me annoyed here, were you trying to take my spotlight away? I’m so famous right now!”
Her hands weakly hit and grabbed and scratched him and her legs flung around but now he was choking her. She made small piercing cries.
“Damn, you got blood on me… I thought you cared about my health but you were just trying to set me up for death!! How could you!! My heart is absolutely broken.”
But Lily was no longer making any sounds. Jackie sighed and dropped her to the floor. He carefully placed the knife in her hand and positioned her neatly, letting the color red pool around her. Ah, I almost forgot! He left the room to look inside her bag, and when he found what he needed, he came back and looked over her face.
“Here you go.” He took the cap off the lipstick and carefully painted her lips.
“Red is my favorite color. I think it looks quite nice on you.”
